Help Wanted: City of New Bedford hiring an Election Commissioner

ELECTION COMMISSIONER $52,139 – $63,602
ELECTIONS

Supervises, plans, and organizes municipal, state, and federal elections; processes registration forms and recruits and trains poll workers; conducts annual street list census, re-precincts the City after the decennial census, and certifies nomination and petition papers through the Voter Registration Information System; works with organizations to promote voter participation and turnout, as mandated by M.G.L.

Process voter registration forms from the Registry of Motor Vehicles; deletes voters from the system; constantly updates and reviews voters and residents for any duplicates in the system. Prepares Municipal Election Calendar.

Recruits, trains, and assigns work for poll workers as well as polling agreement with, School Dept. Housing Authority and School Departments and organizations and process poll worker payroll. Works with Police Department on scheduling police detail on Election Day. Prepares, prints, and mails annual street list census to all City of New Bedford households; provides the Jury Commissioner with a potential list of Jurors annually; works with housing authority on the Street List Census as well as group quarters.

Understands the basics of DS200 voting system and ERM. Write bid specifications for Election Equipment. Enforces election laws with prospective candidates and elected officials. Acts as Chairperson of the Election Commission; conducts meetings as required by MGL and when necessary; works with other commissioners on Election Day annually. Attends City Council meetings; contacts media through newspaper, television, and radio, public speaking involved when necessary. Determines work procedures, prepare work schedules, and expedite workflow. Issues written and oral instructions; assign duties and examine work for exactness, neatness, and conformance to policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s Degree in business management, records management, public administration, or a closely related discipline. At least two years of experience in election or records management, or a related field. Mandatory CORI (Criminal Offender Record Investigation) background check per City Council Ordinance effective May 14, 2013.
