Celebrating the success of Brooks and Hannigan with ribbon cutting ceremonies

Grow Education (Grow) is a school-based gardening initiative aimed to support environmental literacy and nutrition education in the New Bedford public school system. Grow engages teachers through retreats and interactive workshops, to create edible school gardens to utilize year-round with their students and school community. Through the creation of school-based gardens, we hope to increase accessibility to locally grown food and strengthen community collaboration.

Brooks and Hannigan Elementary are the first two schools to create edible school gardens through Grow Education. Joining our network in the fall will be Carney Academy, Carlos Pacheco, The Renaissance School for the Arts, Gomes and Rodman Elementary.

We will be celebrating the success of Brooks and Hannigan with ribbon cutting ceremonies:

The Hannigan School – Wednesday June 11th at 1pm located at 71 Portland Street New Bedford, MA.

The Brooks School – Thursday June 12th at 12:30 located at 212 Nemasket Street New Bedford, MA.

We invite all members of the community to join us as at one or both events as we celebrate the work of the students, teachers, volunteers and team at the Marion Institute.

For additional information on Grow Education, visit their website or call the Marion Institute, 508-748-0816 and ask for Grow Education Program Manager Zoe Hansen-DiBello. Grow Education is a program of the Marion Institute.
