Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd at 7pm; and Saturday, May 3rd at 1PM.

This week Global Learning Charter Public School will be presenting Bugsy Malone. Based on the film of the same name, this wild and wacky musical includes plenty of madcap adventure, 1920’s New York rival gangsters, chorus girls, a budding starlet and unemployed “down-and-outs.” The GLCPS version of this fun and action-packed musical has a few surprises of its own, including “splurging” of gang members with a new type of gangster weapon that covers its victims in silly string!. Bugsy Malone is the guy walking the line between the two gangs and narrates the story while trying his best to impress the new girl in town.

The student actors and crew range from 5th grade through high school. Over half the cast has appeared in other GLCPS Drama Club productions and some have performed in SouthCoast Children’s Festival Theatre. This year’s production features Jason Kirby as Bugsy Malone, Geneva Whetstone as Blousey Brown, Sydney Lipsett as Tallula, Dylan Sylvia as Fat Sam Stacetto, Jyryn Souto as Dandy Dan, Destiny L’Hereux as Louella, Joseph Gonsalves as Fizzy, Stephen Pollard as Knuckles, and Aliyah Stevens as Lena Marrelli. GLCPS teacher Polly Zajac produced and directed the show which is supported in part by a grant from the New Bedford Local Cultural Council through the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

The public is welcome to attend any of three upcoming performances: Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd at 7pm; and Saturday, May 3rd at 1PM. Tickets are $5 per person at the door. Proceeds will support the Drama Club.

All performances will be held at the main school building at 190 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Parking is available in the lot off Nye Street between St. Anthony’s Church and the school, or on surrounding streets. For more information about the performances, contact the school at (508) 991-4105.
