Firearm Seized from Motor Vehicle Stop in Springfield

Yesterday, at about 5:45 p.m., Troopers Theodore Tudryn and Matthew Mielke of the B-Troop Community Action Team (CAT) were on patrol in the City of Springfield when they stopped a gray Honda Civic at the intersection of Wilbraham and Rutland Street, which had a revoked registration.

Trooper Turdyn determined that the operator, a 36-year-old male from Springfield was suspended, second offense. He was placed under arrest and subsequently found to be in possession of two wax paper folds containing a substance believed to be heroin. A Kel-Tec .380 caliber firearm, a magazine containing several rounds of ammunition; and 8 black plastic bags, totaling 72 grams of a substance believed to be marijuana were located inside the vehicle.

He was transported to the Springfield Barracks for booking, held on $10,000.00 bail and then transferred to the Hampshire County House of Correction pending his arraignment in Springfield District Court.

Trooper Matthew Baird of the State Police K-9 Unit assisted in the investigation.

The arrested male was charged with the following offenses;Unlawful Possession of Firearm w/o License, Possession of Ammunition w/o FID Card, Distribution of a Class A Substance (Heroin), Operating a Motor Vehicle w/ Suspended License/Subsequent Offense, Operating Motor Vehicle w/ Revoked Registration, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, Possession to Distribute Class D/Subsequent Offense, Improperly Storing of Firearm, Firearm Violation w/ 1 prior Violent/Drug Crime,and Carry Firearm w/ Ammunition.
