Deadline to Register to Vote in Nov. 4th Election Nears

On Election Day, the polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., as usual.

The New Bedford Board of Election Commissioners reminds the public that Wednesday, October 15, 2014 is the deadline to register to vote in the upcoming State Election on Tuesday, November 4, 2014.

To allow the public more time to complete the voter registration process, the Elections Office, located in New Bedford City Hall at 133 William Street, Room 114, will remain open on October 14, 2014 until 8:00 P.M. The voter registration deadline is also the deadline for voters to notify the Board of Elections of any changes in their address or name.

Voters may cast their ballots for Senator in Congress, Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Treasurer, Auditor, Representative in Congress, Councillor, Senator in General Court, Representative in General Court for the 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 13th Bristol Representative District, District Attorney, Register of Probate, County Commissioner and statewide questions #1 through #4, citywide question #5 and question # 6, not binding question in the 8th Bristol Representative District, which consists of Ward 1 precincts D,E & F.

The Board of Election Commissioners also reminds the public that absentee ballots for the State Election are available. A voter unable to get to the polls on Election Day may vote by absentee ballot during regular office hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 P.M.—4:00 P.M.) or may request that an absentee ballot application be mailed to their home address. In addition, to allow voters more time to cast an absentee ballot, the City of New Bedford Election Office will open on Saturday, November 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. Absentee ballots may be cast up to 12 noon on the day before the Election or November 3, 2014.

Voters may familiarize themselves with City’s new voting equipment. Voters will now cast their ballot by filling the oval to the right of the candidate’s name. The ballot for the November 4th, election is two pages and voters must remember to turn to the back page to vote all questions. The official specimen ballot is available on City’s web site at www.newbedford-ma.gov.

On Election Day, the polls will be open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., as usual.
