On Friday, December 17, 2021 members of the Dartmouth Police Department served an arrest warrant on Andrew WHITETHORN, 48, of Petersburg, Alaska at the Baymont Hotel.

During the investigation that followed, officers learned that WHITETHORN had a firearm in his vehicle.

Because WHITETHORN was not licensed to carry a firearm in Massachusetts, detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle.

During the search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded .45 caliber handgun, and several rounds of ammunition.

WHITETHORN was subsequently charged with carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, and improper storage of a firearm.

According to Chief Brian P. LEVESQUE: โ€œAs a result of the outstanding collaborative effort between patrol, K-9, and detectives, an illegally possessed firearm was taken off of the street.โ€
