A service for understanding, peace and healing

Micah 6:8 – He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.

In response to the global, national, and community tragedies which have heightened our sense of distrust of the “other” because of their race, religion, sexual orientation, or role in our civil society; the Inter-Church Council of Greater New Bedford will hold a worship service on September 11 at 4:00 PM hosted by the North Baptist Church, 750 County St. New Bedford.

We’ve seen what fear and hate can produce. The distrust of others who don’t “look like me, sound like me, think like me or act like me”. We’ve watched in horror the shootings of individuals resulting in riots, multiple killings in Orlando, Dallas, Baton Rouge, in schools, businesses, military bases and even a historical church during Bible study. Including here on our streets where the lives of a 15 year boy and a 19 year old girl is tragically ended for no earthly reason.

We the Faith Community of Greater New Bedford, along with civic leaders, have decided to that on the 15th anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 we would lift our voices in words, song, liturgical dance, prayers and discussion. We must combat the hate and confusion with understanding, which can lead to peace and then hopefully, prayerfully, some healing will take place. It will take all of us coming together to start the change.

Voices from the religious, racially and sexually diverse, and police communities, as well as a youth of the city, will share from their perspective, our need to promote understanding, peace, and justice for all. A time of fellowship will follow the hour long service where we will encourage all people to listen to the concerns of the other – to reach out to voices different than their own. ALL ARE WELCOME!
