The following is a letter from Matt Morrissey, head of the Economic Development Council in New Bedford, to members of the council, in regard to the upcoming public forum to discuss plans to improve Acushnet Avenue and the surrounding area:
Dear Council Members,
We would like to take this opportunity to invite all of our Council members to a public forum to join us for a discussion to advance Acushnet Avenue as an International Market Place. This forum will take place on Monday, December 6th at 6pm at Cotali Mar Restaurant at 1178 Acushnet Ave (please refer to the graphic below). Since 2008, during our planning and business development efforts, we have heard business owners and area residents repeatedly express a vision for a revitalized and safe commercial area that respects our heritage, has the atmosphere of an international marketplace that emphasizes independent shop owners, and is a gateway into New Bedford. As we continue our strategic approach to bringing new energy to Acushnet Avenue, we have developed a plan with actions that we can begin to implement today, along with future initiatives that will create the international marketplace as a must-see destination in New Bedford. As always, your input and participation as Council members are valued as we look to move forward with early implementation actions for the spring. Thank you for all you have done and we look forward to seeing you on December 6th.
Please contact Angela Johnston at ajohnston@nbedc.org or 508.991.3122 x 123 with any questions and to confirm your attendance.
Best,
Matthew A. Morrissey
