20 Things To Do This Weekend (July 21 – July 23)

This weekend seems a bit of a repeat of last weekend. There will be plenty of humidity combined with warm temperatures and occasional showers. While Friday and Saturday we will see bouts of sunshine things do not look good for Sunday. Nonetheless, a little rain won’t stop us from taking part in all the fun things going on this weekend across the SouthCoast and beyond!

Friday, July 21st

2017 South County Balloon Festival (4:00pm-8:00pm)
The South County Balloon Festival is one of Rhode Island’s most popular summer events, featuring Tethered Hot Air Balloon rides, crafters, carnival rides, food vendors, live music, fireworks and lots of other family fun and entertainment. Tickets available at the gate. Family discounts available. Balloon rides, and carnival rides have additional fee. Food and craft vendors on-site too! URI Athletic Fields Keaney Rd. Kingston, RI.

Cruise Night at the Wharf (5:00pm-9:00pm)Head to Downtown Taunton to enjoy Blues Night with the With its landmark gazebo, view of Mattapoisett Harbor, and proximity to the busy Town Wharf, the grassy park offers a glimpse of traditional seaside village life. In the summer, there is a small food and ice cream shack open, and there are evening concerts and cruise nights at the park and wharf. In July, the three-day Harbor Days Festival, sponsored by the Mattapoisett Lions Club, draws crowds from throughout the region. Water Street, Mattapoisett.

An evening of wine and a barrel of laughs as host and comedian Jeremy Furtado welcomes comedians from around the region to Newport Vineyards on Friday.

Summer Sound Series: The E-Water Band (6:00pm-8:00pm)
Mayor Jon Mitchell presents the 2017 Summer Sound Series with FREE Concerts on the Pier Fridays! Bring your own chair, sit back and relax, or get up and dance! Hipshot Band LLC will perform July 7. Bringing you the best dance music of “THEN & NOW”. Port of New Bedford, 52 Fisherman’s Wharf, New Bedford.

New Bedford Festival Theater presents Lerner & Loewes’ “My Fair Lady” (7:00pm)
Broadway’s most honored musical, My Fair Lady was created by the celebrated musical team of Alan Jay Lerne and Frederick Loewe, directed by the legendary Moss Hart, and starred Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews. After a successful run on Broadway, the show and original stars, moved to London where they became the toast of two continents! Several years later Warner Brothers brought My Fair Lady to the screen starring Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn. The film won 10 Oscars including Best Picture! Join Henry Higgins, Colonel Pickering and Eliza Doolittle for this beloved tale of love and transformation. Zeiterion theater.

Rise And Shine Yoga At Fort Phoenix (8:30am-9:30am)
Join South Coast Yoga every Saturday morning at Fort Phoenix to start your weekend with an energizing yoga practice! Class is only a $5 drop in, or you can purchase a class card (info below). Class incorporates movement, meditation, balance and strength. This is open to all levels, newbies to advanced. Please bring a mat/towel and water. The beginning of the season can be chilly, so layers are good! Children are welcome, as long as they can sit quietly for the hour (10 and up usually). Class passes are $25 for 5 classes and can be used at Fort Taber and Fort Phoenix classes all summer.

St. John Neumann Womens Guild is sponsoring their “One Day Only Barn Sale” to be held RAIN or SHINE at St. John Neumann Parish Barn located next to Cathedral Camp on Rt. 18 – Middleboro Road in East Freetown, Mass. New Bedford Antiques Center at Wamsutta Place (11:00am-6:00pm)

Join us at Buzzards Bay Brewery for a laid back afternoon of yoga and brews. Class starts at 12pm (an hour before the brewery opens), cost is $15 (cash only). This covers the class and a pint filled with your choice of brew. Or $10 for just the yoga class. Hang out after and order from the food truck or bring your own food. We do the class on the grass outside of the brewery overlooking the beautiful landscape. Buzzards Bay Brewery has a family friendly atmosphere and is a wonderful place to relax. The Legendary Street Rods Car Club teams up with the North Fairhaven Improvement Association to present a summertime Car, Truck, and Bike Show and Family Fun Fair at Livesey Park in North Fairhaven. There will be raffles, awards, music, children’s activities, food and more. Fee to enter a vehicle in the show is $15. Admission to the event is free. Proceeds from the Car Show benefit the New Bedford Veterans Transition House & Cancer Fund. Proceeds from food sales benefit the NFIA and Fairhaven Lions Club. The rain date for the event is July 30.
