As always, click on the title for more or detailed information on the event. Most of the events were pulled from our event calendar where you can find hundreds of local area events each month. The event calendar is FREE, so if you are a local business, and not taking advantage of FREE publicity, shame on you! Are you a local business and want to sponsor this high traffic, weekend guide? Contact info@newbedfordguide.com for more details. Have an event to add? Check out our tutorial. For more info, you can click on each title. Know of another event this weekend? Post a reply!

NBSO presents Berlioz, Sibelius & Dvořák at the “Z” (7:30pm)
oin the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra for opening night as we celebrate our 100th season! Hector Berlioz: Le Corsaire: Evoking swashbucklers at sea, this high-spirited overture is both fiery and sentimental. Its boisterous nature is both surprising and unexpected from Berlioz. Jean Sibelius: Violin Concerto: Sibelius doesn’t waste a note in this colorful orchestration. His lineage is that of Beethoven, with whom he stands as the bookends spanning the Romantic century. Martin Chalifour, principal concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is featured in this technically demanding work. Antonín Dvořák: Symphony No. 9 in E Minor (“New World”): Though written by a Czech composer, this is an iconic American symphony and, ironically, the first symphony defined as American. Dvořák composed the work during a discontented three-year stay in America, influenced greatly by his mentor, Johannes Brahms, along with inspiration from the sounds of his new world and his native Bohemian folk tunes.
