Passerby, EMS save overdosing man in New Bedford

A man reportedly overdosed behind the wheel of a truck on Ashley BLVD at the intersection with Sawyer Street around 4:30pm.

Jonathan Barrows of New Bedford noticed the a man unresponsive behind the wheel and stopped for a long time at the stop sign. He yelled and then banged on the window and after no response opened the door. Mr. Barrows reported that the man was turning blue and his eyes were rolled back into his head with his foot still on the gas pedal. He then pulled the man out and performed CPR until EMS arrived to save the man. It appears they used Narcan to revive him.

The man can be seen walking away from the scene. EMS personnel recovered a used needle.
