The New Bedford Police Youth Baseball team had an undefeated 2014 championship season!

In a ceremony at City Hall, Mayor Jon Mitchell and members of the City Council honored the players and coaches of the New Bedford Police Youth Baseball team for their undefeated 2014 championship season. The team went 27-0 on their way to winning both the South End Youth Athletic Association and New Bedford City championships in September.

“It takes a lot of teamwork and dedication to accomplish what this team did this year,” said Mayor Mitchell. “Not only did they win every game they played, including two championship games, but they did it only one year after finishing last in the league. I’m very proud of these young men, and their manager and coaches.”

At the 5:30pm event in the Ashley Room at City Hall, Mayor Mitchell presented each player and coach with an official citation congratulating them on their season, as well as a t-shirt emblazoned with a specially designed championship logo.

The players on the 2014 New Bedford Police team are: Giovanni Arzuaga, Jonah Castelo, Austin Defreitas, C.J. Dunston, Ben Frias, Daisean Hensley, Zachary Medeiros, Angel Quinones, Ben Saunders, Tyler Santos, and Rydel Velasquez. Bob Rose was the team’s manager, and they were coached by Mike Frias, Jose Castelo, Manny Santos, and Ross Grace.
