The free concert takes place from 6:30-7:30 in the garden at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, (33 William Street), downtown New Bedford.

The 2015 Thursdays in the Park Concert Series continues on Thursday, August 6, with Kenneth Sweeney singing maritime music. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be moved indoors to the National Park Theater.

An accomplished singer and instrumentalist on harmonica, 5-string banjo, and English concertina, Ken has performed at festivals and dances throughout his native New England home and beyond since the mid-1970s. Wide experience with varied lifestyles, occupations, and hard travel drive his performances with a special affinity for timeless songs with a universal theme. Ken has been a farmhand, deckhand, logger, lecturer, motorcycle courier, railroad hobo, and “Visiting Professor of Harmonica and Banjo” at a Connecticut University. Twice former chanteyman and demonstration squad member at Mystic Seaport since 1989, Ken has crewed on tall ships, and climbed to the main truck of the Charles W. Morgan!

This year’s Thursday in the Park Concert Series is co-sponsored by the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, a new non-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of the City’s commercial fishing industry.
