AIDS Inc. is a 100% non-profit organization and they help raise money to help families and people who are affected by HIV/AIDS. My brother Michael was taken from us in 2006 from AIDS at the age of 28. In 2007 we joined the New Bedford Walk on AIDS as “Team Michael.” This walk is held at Ft. Taber in New Bedford annually.

Team Michael has been in existence for 9 years raising over $36,000 all donated to A.I.D.S. Inc. Since our first walk in 2007 having 8 walkers, Team Michael increased its walkers to 120 in 2014. Although we have increased our team we have noticed a decrease in overall walkers. This is likely due to a lack of “advertising” this event to the public. This is a walk to help spread awareness and also to raise money for families who are affected by HIV/AIDS. The goal is to spread AWARENESS about HIV/AIDS.

Since 1989 AIDS Inc has been helping families in the local community that have been affected by HIV/AIDS. They help out with food, electricity bills, gas bills, prescription glasses, and whatever other needs a family has. is the director of this non-profit organization. some people are very cautious when you mention “non-profit organization”. My family has worked very close with director Jim Coutinho on several occasions.

We were honored to receive the 2014 New Bedford World Aids Day Award along with Proclamations from both the Mayor Jon Mitchell and New Bedford City Council for service to the community.

The New Bedford Walk on AIDS will be at Fort Taber in New Bedford, June 20, 2015 at 9:30am. For more information go to their event page on Facebook.

It’s not only the person with it that is affected, but it also adversely affects the families for years to come. We hope to see you there!
