The Special Projects Manager must ensure the Career Center is providing opportunities that properly align and are responsive to the needs of the employer and the jobseeker. The Special Projects Manager will also oversee a number of critical programs important to the daily operations of the Career Center by managing all aspects and phases from planning to deliverables to ensure successful outcomes, budgeting, and managing the staff associated with those projects.

Candidates must possess a BA/BS and experience in program/project coordination. Candidates should also possess strong oral/written communication, interpersonal and organization/planning skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and evidence of creativity, self-motivation and problem solving abilities is required. Junior Achievement of Southern Massachusetts looking for Part-Time Program Coordinator

Junior Achievement (JA) is a nonprofit organization that empowers young people to own their economic success. Through an innovative partnership between educators, volunteers and the business community, JA offers programs that foster work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills to students in kindergarten through 12th grade. JA’s volunteer-delivered curriculum uses experiential learning to teach young people about making smart academic, financial and career choices throughout life.

JA of Southern Massachusetts serves students in classrooms in 21 cities and towns throughout Bristol and Plymouth counties, including: Acushnet, Attleboro, North Attleboro, Berkley, Dartmouth, Dighton, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown, Marion, Mattapoisett, New Bedford, Raynham, Rehoboth, Rochester, Seekonk, Somerset, Swansea, Taunton, Wareham and Westport.

The Program Coordinator position is a part-time, 20 hour/week position supervised by the President. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the overall implementation and management of JA programs, assuring that all administrative procedures are implemented and that volunteers are secured and trained. The position also includes increasing public awareness for JA programs, assuring program quality and expansion, maintaining strong school relations, planning and executing methods of recognition, and developing a yearly program planning calendar.

Oversees and may perform repairs on all life support systems as deemed necessary to maintain facility operations. Assists in the design and installation of new filtration systems. Maintains proper water quality using sanitizers, ozone and other chemicals. Maintains water chemistry, including salinity, PH levels and other parameters. Maintains proper water filtration for turbidity/clarity.

Responsible for maintaining accurate records related to all life support systems and water quality. Assists in maintaining clean work environments. Assists in other animal care areas as assigned. Assists in ordering and stocking of all necessary chemicals, equipment and supplies. Maintains appropriate communications with Animal Care Supervisors and staff as to water and pool conditions.

Education & Experience: Four years’ paid full-time, or part-time equivalent, experience in water treatment, mechanical maintenance or laboratory work; or a degree from an accredited college in Biology or other natural science, plus two years’ experience in the mentioned areas of work. Experience with salt and fresh water systems. Experience with USDA marine mammal standards related to water quality; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of water chemistry and water quality parameters, analysis, filtration systems, etc. Good working knowledge of hydraulic/pumping, automated control and filtration/disinfection systems, as well as knowledge of electricity, interpreting values on machinery and gauges. Working knowledge of water filtration systems.

Proven troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Must be computer literate.

Ability to work on one’s feet for extensive periods of time, in adverse conditions (e.g. cramped spaces and wet environment). Must be fully capable of reading technical drawings, technical specifications and written repair/maintenance procedures with minimum supervision. Ability to maintain effective working relationships and function in a team environment with limited supervision.

FUNCTION: A Cadet will work in the Police Station assisting Police Officers with administrative duties.

Must be a New Bedford resident for the duration of employment. Employment is terminated on the Cadet’s 25th birthday.

Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED equivalency certificate issued by the Massachusetts Department of Education.

Position Announcement – SEMAP Executive Director

The Southeastern Massachusetts Agriculture Partnership is seeking an organized and dynamic executive director with a passion for local farming who can advocate for sustainable agriculture; administer outreach programs to educate consumers about local food; and work with a board of directors to develop a vision that will facilitate the long-term growth of agriculture in Southeastern Massachusetts.

SEMAP is dedicated to preserving and expanding access to local food and sustainable farming in southeastern Massachusetts through research and education. We serve farms, farmers, and the communities of southeastern Massachusetts with our primary service area covering Bristol, Norfolk, and Plymouth counties.

SEMAP will continue strategic planning to determine which core services and programs should be emphasized. In addition to directly serving the agricultural community, SEMAP acts a regional facilitator for cooperative work on agricultural issues. Programs and projects currently include: active website and monthly “Vine” e-newsletter, quarterly print newsletter, annual Ag & Food Conference, online and print Local Food Guide, Twilight Grower Education Series, winter networking meetings and technical assistance meetings, and more. The SEMAP Director will work alongside staff and the board of directors to carry out SEMAP’s mission.

Roles & Responsibilities:

•Actively advocate for the agricultural advancement in our region
•Engage member and non-member farmers through direct outreach, programming, marketing and technical assistance
•Manage all financial and fundraising tasks such as bookkeeping, budgeting, grant writing, membership, personal and corporate appeals, and annual events
•Maintain and develop SEMAP’s core programs
•Lead a small staff (2-3 FTE)
•Work with board and staff on events, to include those listed above
•Seek out and facilitate public speaking and regional collaboration opportunities
•Work with and report to the SEMAP Board of Directors

Desired Qualifications:

•Passion for local agriculture
•Bachelor’s or advanced degree and/or significant agricultural experience
•Non-profit management and leadership experience including: financial management, fundraising, and program development and management

Compensation and Time Commitment: Commensurate with experience. Annual salary – $40-$52K, plus benefits, with opportunity for growth. Full-time Exempt. 40-50 hours per week, evening and weekend hours and regional travel, with an average of 6-8 evening engagements and one weekend commitment per month.
