“This morning at approximately 0720 hrs, the Rochester Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at the Harvey Recycling facility on Cranberry Highway.
Units 190, 193, 198, 192, 210 and Tower 1 and Rochester Police Department, MA arrived to find the fire contained within a metal container used for baling aluminum recyclables. Tower 1 was positioned above the container to access and extinguish the smoldering aluminum and flames from above.
Prior to our arrival, Harvey personnel were able to reduce the fire load by removing two bales from the container. Thanks to their quick actions and the coordinated response of crews on scene, the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.
Automatic mutual aid was summoned from neighboring Mattapoisett and Marion for additional personnel and station coverage. That response was canceled enroute once command was established and initial reports were that the fire was contained to the bale hopper.
Great teamwork all around.”-Rochester Fire Department.
