The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center will host the first Mayor’s Summer Movie Series, with a kickoff on Wednesday, June 28 at 7 p.m. for the 1975 summer hit Jaws.
The first summer movie series of its kind, the Mayor’s Summer Movie Series at the Z gives residents and visitors the opportunity to revisit three summertime favorites with the full theater experience. Hosted by the Zeiterion on summer evenings, it gives moviegoers a chance to take advantage of downtown’s amenities including dining, shopping and entertainment.
With Jaws at June’s summer movie, 1993 cult classic The Sandlot will play July 12 at 7 p.m., and Dirty Dancing will play August 9 at 7 p.m. – 30 years after its release in August 1987.
Mayor Jon Mitchell said it is adds another option to visiting downtown during the summer, and is a great experience for those who want to see their favorite films – whether watching again or for younger viewers having a chance to see these films in a theater for the first time.
“We invite everyone to see these fan favorites on the big screen, and to enjoy the dining and recreational opportunities our downtown has to offer,” said Mayor Mitchell. “The movies are modern-day classics and fun summer hits that appeal to a wide audience. We’re glad the City could partner with the Zeiterion to offer free admission to these great movies.”
Rosemary Gill, Executive Director of Programming and Development at the Zeiterion said, “With The Z’s legendary history as a movie house, we felt we were uniquely positioned to fill the void of a theater in New Bedford, and the Mayor agreed and offered to sponsor the summer series. We’re proud to partner with the City to present three classic films for free, in the Mayor’s Summer Movie Series at The Z.”
The public is invited to enjoy the following films at the Zeiterion Performing Arts Center, 684 Purchase Street in New Bedford:
– Wednesday, June 28 at 7:00 p.m.: Jaws
– Wednesday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m.: The Sandlot
– Wednesday, August 9 at 7:00 p.m.: Dirty Dancing
