Your Theatre will stage a world premier of The Obraz, by local playwright Ray Veary, for one weekend only. Judy Lemay is directing the play.
The Obraz is based upon actual events in 1934 Poland and tells the story of a young cloistered nun, Faustina, who has a vision of an inspired painting and must find a painter who can create it. Inept at the most basic of the convent’s kitchen work, she is surrounded by skeptics. Some of the other nuns plainly suspect she’s not in her right mind, and the artist she hires presents her biggest obstacle yet. However, our young nun has a couple of unexpected allies on her side. If all saints had pasts, as Augustine once said, then doubtlessly more than a few of those pasts had their untold stories of humanity and humor. The Obraz is a speculation upon the untold story of Faustina.
