Your Theatre, Inc. director Lawrence R. Houbre, Jr. will hold open auditions for the mystery thriller Horrors of Dr. Moreau, adapted by Joel Stone on Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at 7:00 p.m.

Auditions will consist of a cold reading from the script. Acting experience is not necessary, but role seekers should have a desire to share the experience of and commitment to live theatre and the enjoyment of collaborating with other talented individuals.

Director Houbre is seeking to fill at least five roles for this production.

  1. Ape Man – Tries to be sure of himself but is pursued by much self-doubt and confusion.
  2. Pig Woman – Filled with intense emotions and finds herself frightened most of the time.
  3. Tiger Women – Constantly searching for the truth to her tortured existence.
  4. Sayer of the Law – Loud and booming voice, he lives to say the Law and becomes confused when it loses its meaning.
  5. Edward Prendick – Filled with inner emotion and intensity, he is beyond the point of fear and despair, and must use his inner resources and instincts to survive.
Other creatures may be cast in the ensemble to fill the island.

The play: Washed ashore on a mysterious island, Edward Prendick finds himself trapped inside a strange biological experiment: Dr. Moreau has created a race of pseudo-humans out of the animals he found living on the island. Taken in by the “Beast Folk,” Edward witnesses the struggle between animal instinct and man’s facade of civility. Primal forces soon plunge the island into chaos and Edward has only one hope left… escape!

The production runs September 10-20, 2015. Actors must be available for all performances. Rehearsals will start after July 4th with a flexible schedule. The production will be staged ‘in-the-round’ at the playhouse.
