A 43-year-old Sandwich woman escaped serious injury this morning when the vehicle she was operating struck a turkey on Route 6A in East Sandwich.

At approximately 8:30 am, police received a call reporting a vehicle travelling East on Route 6A in East Sandwich struck a turkey that was crossing the roadway. The bird crashed through the windshield of the 2007 Kia Sportage, and passed between the driver and the unoccupied passenger seat. The bird continued through the passenger compartment, striking the rear tailgate of the vehicle. The operator sustained minor injuries from broken glass.

Solar glare at the time of the incident may have been a contributing factor. The turkey did not survive and the vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
