Woman allegedly attempts to stab New Bedford police officer released then arrested hours later

On July 2, 2021, at 5am, north end patrol officers responded to Princeton St. regarding a male and female breaking into a parked automobile. Following an investigation, 29-year old Sabria Chytrus of 979 Pleasant Street in New Bedford was discovered hiding beneath the porch of a nearby residence. As officers were removing Chytrus from her hiding spot, she attempted to stab at one with a pocketknife before being subdued and disarmed.

Chytrus was charged with the vehicle break, possession of an illegal knife, assault by means of a dangerous weapon on the officer and she also had an active warrant for her arrest. She was released on her own recognizance at Third District court at approximately 10am.

At 2pm, Chytrus was observed by narcotics detectives engaged in a suspected drug transaction in the area of Belleville Ave/Coffin Ave. She was subsequently stopped and found to be in possession of suspected cocaine and heroin.

Chytrus was placed under arrest for the second time in less than 10 hours and charged with possession of class “A”, class “B” and conspiracy to violate the drug laws.
