Wildlife Education Series launches at Buttonwood Park Zoo

The Buttonwood Park Zoo and Zoological Society launches a monthly Wildlife Education Series. Discussions will cover a wide range of topics pertaining to Biology, Ecology, Marine Biology, Animal Behavior, and Veterinary, Animal, and Conservation Sciences. Events will be held in the evening at the Wildlife Education Center in the Zoo. The format, time and dates of the seminars will vary based on the topic and speaker, from lecture to problem based learning, and will be geared to inquisitive individuals who are eager to learn and ask questions. Series Launch: October 5, 2016 from 7:00 – 8:30 PM: “Awareness Inspires Conservation: White Sharks in the North Atlantic”

Join Cynthia Wigren, Executive Director and Co-founder of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) as she presents “Awareness Inspires Conservation: White Sharks in the North Atlantic.” This presentation provides information on AWSC and the work being done right off our coast.

Cynthia holds a BS in Wildlife Management from University of New Hampshire and MBA from Southern New Hampshire University. Cynthia spent twelve years working for online trading companies in the energy industry, with a focus on project management, strategic planning, and sales. Cynthia is an avid traveler and a scuba diver with a deep appreciation for wildlife on land and sea. Her underwater experiences with whale sharks, great hammerheads, nurse sharks, and great white sharks, led her to leave the corporate world and establish Atlantic White Shark Conservancy to support shark research and education.

A portion of the fee will be given back to the applicable charitable organization surrounding each seminar. Light refreshments will be served.
