Wepecket Island Records will present the legendary John Roberts

Sing Out Magazine calls Mr. Roberts’s “One of the great voices in folk music.”

Wepecket Island Records will present the legendary John Roberts in concert at the Wamsutta Club, 427 County St., on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.

One of the most important figures in the British folk invasion of the ‘60s, he has been a frequent headliner at the New Bedford Folk Festival and has appeared in concert to overflow audiences. Sing Out Magazine calls Mr. Roberts’s “One of the great voices in folk music.”

Accompanying himself on the banjo and concertina, as well as singing in the time-honored a capella pub tradition, his performances are punctuated with a dry wit, delightful stories and plenty of opportunities to sing along on the choruses.

Wepecket sponsors the monthly concert series at the James Arnold 19th-century mansion, and the audience is warmly invited to join the artists for refreshment and conversation in the historic “Rounders’ Club” after the performance. The unique salon-style concerts are designed to provide a more intimate setting for audience and performer than a staged presentation affords.

Admission is $18, $14 for seniors and children; tickets for the show can be purchased in advance for $16/$12 online at http://www.wepecket.com/tickets.htm.

Wepecket Island Records, Inc. is a traditional American music record label with world-wide distribution based in New Bedford.

Food and beverage service is available during the performance. All shows are family-friendly and the Club is wheelchair accessible. For further information, call 508-292-5632.
