Wareham Police arrest man for strangulation, assaulting police officers

On Wednesday, September 18, at 8:30 p.m., Wareham Police responded to the Tobey Hospital emergency room for a disturbance. At the scene, Officers Christopher Corner and Lorenzo Grosso found a male who was acting unruly and swearing loudly.

In addition, it was discovered that the male had attacked another male, grabbing him by the neck just prior to the officer’s arrival. As a result, Paul Patterson, 50, of Wareham, was placed under arrest.

Later, at the police station, Mr. Patterson became combative and attacked officers when they attempted to take a cell phone from him. During the scuffle, Mr. Patterson kicked Officer Nate Aronson and Sgt. Steve Soqui. Mr. Patterson then grabbed Officer Aronson by his uniform shirt at the neck and attempted to strike him with his other hand. After a violent struggle, Mr. Patterson was finally secured in a holding cell but remained combative.

Mr. Patterson is charged with:
• Disorderly conduct
• Disturbing the peace
• Strangulation
• 2 Counts of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer
