On Thursday, February 14, at about 10:30 p.m. Wareham Police received a call from Stop and Shop about a shoplifter that fled the store and was headed toward the area of the Liquor Locker. Officer Michael Phinney located the suspect in the liquor store and found the stolen groceries next to the building. It contained over $75.00 in items, and Officer Phinney placed the male in custody.

After being placed under arrest, the suspect allegedly attempted to escape from the cruiser by kicking at the rear door and protective bars. His escape attempt was thwarted when Officer Blaise Lalli ordered him to stop, or he would face additional charges. The suspect now began to berate the officers for not dealing with more serious crimes in town.

Eric Bedard, 40, of East Wareham was arrested and charged with shoplifting and it appears there was no damage to the cruiser’s interior.

On Friday, February 15, at midnight, officers responded to the Water’s Edge Trailer Park for a reported disturbance. This was the second time in less than an hour that officers had responded to the area for a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers attempted to speak to the same male who had earlier been given a verbal warning, however this time he was immediately confrontational and uncooperative. The male accused officers of harassing him and when he was told he was being placed in custody flailed his arms in a violent manner, resisting officers.

Eric Bedard, 40, of East Wareham was arrested for disorderly conduct by Officers Nate Aronson and Ryan Turner.
