Wareham Fire and Police Departments respond to structure fire at Long Boat Road

“On Monday, July 26, 2021 at 2:17 a.m. the Wareham Fire Department received multiple calls reporting a structure fire at 33 Long Boat Road in West Wareham.

Wareham Fire Engine One responded immediately with Captain Micky Bird, Firefighters Thomas Harrigan, Alex Estes, and Chris Callinan. In addition, off-duty career and call firefighters were alerted to respond as well. Wareham Police officers advised responding firefighters that the home was heavily involved in fire.

Upon arrival, Capt. Bird and his crew made an aggressive attack on the fire, while command at the scene was established by Chief Matthew Rowley and Assistant Chief John Kelley. Two more engines and a ladder company from the WFD responded to assist the initial crew.

The fire was knocked down by 3:02 a.m. with the home sustaining heavy damage and a neighboring home receiving minor damage.

The three adult occupants escaped without injury, however, one cat perished in the fire. The other cat, Jasmine, was located hiding by Captain Chip Deblois and Firefighter Chris McIntosh. Jasmine was brought out and administered oxygen by fire and EMS personnel. Wareham DNR Director Garry Buckminster arrived and assisted with animals affected by the blaze. The Red Cross was contacted to assist with sheltering the family.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation however it does not appear to be suspicious.

An engine from the Onset Fire Department stood by to cover any other calls in Wareham.”
