“Another hot day, another hot dog x 2, left in the car. On Tuesday WDNR officers responded to a parking lot located in Wareham Crossing for a report of two dogs left in the back of a truck with a cap and no ventilation.

Upon arrival, the two officers observed an older yellow and chocolate lab in the back of a secured, dark color cap. A small vent window was observed by the officers to be open with considerable heat emanating from the opening. Air temperature and surface temperatures were taken and ranging from 101-107 degrees inside the enclosed truck bed.

The dogs were heavily panting and officers determined that the conditions were not suitable for them. Access was gained to the bed through the unlocked glass hatch and they were given water.

When the owner of the dogs returned to the vehicle a citation was issued for the maximum penalty allowed by law – MGL 140 Section 174f, $150.00.

The dogs did not need medical attention.

This is an ongoing issue and the temperatures are forecasted to soar this weekend. Please, we are begging people and yes we know we sound like a broken record but don’t leave an animal in these conditions. This issue is nonstop and exhausting ?‍♂️?‍♂️?‍♂️….”-Wareham Animal Control Division of DNR.
