“On May 27, 2021, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) Warrant Fugitive Unit (WFU) officers were assisting agents with the U.S. Marshals Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, with the apprehension of 54-year-old Anthony William Rodgers, wanted out of Boston, Massachusetts, for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

Agents and VBPD officers located Rodgers operating a Jeep Grand Cherokee and observed him pull into a convenience store parking lot located at 4904 Haygood Road. WFU Officers and agents approached the vehicle and were speaking with Rodgers when he abruptly drove off, striking a U.S. Marshals vehicle while doing so. Rodgers continued to drive recklessly, striking VBPD and U.S. Marshal vehicles before additional VBPD officers successfully deployed stop sticks. Rodgers continued to elude police but was ultimately stopped and taken into custody at Wesleyan Drive near Diamond Springs Rd.

The VBPD have signed additional charges on Mr. Rodgers for attempt/unlawful wounding (3 counts), felony hit-and-run (4 counts), felony eluding, and misdemeanor hit-and-run (2 counts). These charges are in addition to the open warrants he was being sought for. Mr. Rodgers is currently being held in the Virginia Beach City Jail.”
