Election Commission Reminds Voters of Deadline to Register to Vote in Nov 3rd Election

The New Bedford Board of Election Commissioners reminds New Bedford residents that Wednesday, October 14, 2015 is the deadline to register to vote in the November 3rd Municipal Election. It is also the deadline to notify the Board of Elections of any change in voter name or address.

The City of New Bedford Election Office, located in City Hall at 133 William Street, Room 114, will remain open on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 until 8:00 p.m. in order to allow the public more time to complete the voter registration process and make necessary updates to their name or address.

Voters with “inactive” voting status because they did not respond to the Annual Street List Census or have not voted in the past 2 to 4 years, will be required to show identification, and complete and sign an affirmation of continuous residence before they may cast their ballot on election day.

In the Municipal Election on November 3, 2015, voters may cast their ballots for the office of Mayor, Assessor, School Committee, Councillors-At-Large and Ward Councillors.

Any voter who is unable to get to the polls on Election Day may vote by absentee ballot during regular Election Office hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) or may request to have an absentee ballot application mailed to their home address.

The New Bedford Election Office will open on Saturday, October 31, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon and on Monday, November 2nd until 12 Noon to allow voters additional time to cast an absentee ballot.

Any New Bedford resident whose address has changed since the last election, would like to request an absentee ballot, or is uncertain about their voting status or designated polling location, should contact the New Bedford Board of Election Commissioners at (508) 979-1420.
