Dartmouth High School band members chase away clown from practice

From the Dartmouth Police Department:

“There was a “clown” sighting last night at approximately 7:45 p.m. during band practice at Dartmouth high school.

Though several band advisors gave chase, the clown fled the area in a vehicle. In response, police units checked the area, but were unable to locate the subject. In light of this, we would like to remind everyone to remain calm, and remember not to act impulsively if and/or when they see a clown.

The vast majority of these incidents are being perpetrated by “copy cats,” who have been motivated by the national media attention that this craze is currently receiving.

Though creepy, it is not against the law to simply dress up like a clown, and we do not want to see an incident where a concerned citizen acts on emotion after seeing one, and, in turn, gets themselves in trouble.

Instead, we ask that you simply call DPD, so we can attempt to locate and identify them.
Rest assured that we are out there, and that all of DPD’s officers are aware of what is currently going on, and are remaining vigilant during patrol.

Also, our School Resource Officers (SRO’s) are in constant contact with both DPD and school officials, and will respond accordingly to any incident, should one occur.

It is the position of Chief Szala that we are taking a zero tolerance stance on any incident that violates any Massachusetts General Law/s associated with this behavior.”

Thank you
