UMass Dartmouth to celebrate Juneteenth with FREE event featuring local panelists

On June 17, the University will host a webinar that discusses the historical context and present-day implications of the holiday

This year, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the UMass system will officially celebrate Juneteenth for the first time. Join members of the UMass Dartmouth and SouthCoast community to learn more about this holiday that celebrates the emancipation of those enslaved in the U.S. during a webinar on Thursday, June 17 at 11 a.m.

The virtual webinar will be moderated by Dr. LaSella Hall, PhD, Associate Director, Frederick Douglass Unity House at UMass Dartmouth.

Panelists include:

• Lee Blake, President, New Bedford Historical Society
• Gail Fortes Executive Director, YWCA Southeastern Massachusetts
• David A. Gomes, Esq. Chief Diversity Officer, UMass Dartmouth
• Ricardo Rosa, PhD, Associate Professor of Public Policy and Assistant Director of the Office of Faculty Development at UMass Dartmouth.
