U.S. Marine Colonel Waters Decorating Day story

Retired U.S. Marine Colonel Waters shared an amazing story about Decoration Day – in 1865, former slaves made to effort to properly bury and decorate the graves of nearly 300 Union soldiers in a former Confederate prison.

Col Waters was the 10th man of color to be commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps and is a former principal of Carney Academy. He served in Korea in 1952. All of his five children served in the military.
