U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh addresses rumors about a run for governorship in Massachusetts

Rumors about ex-Boston Mayor Marty Walsh jumping into the governor’s race for Massachusetts have been circulating for weeks.

Asked for confirmation of this rumor in a CNN interview, Walsh said “President Biden asked me in January of last year if I would serve as secretary of labor; it’s an incredible honor and privilege to work in the Biden administration.

I’m working with the president to continue to rebuild America, keep having us come back, and we have plenty of work to do here in Washington. But it was an honor to be mentioned as a governor. I love Massachusetts, I love my City of Boston, but I’m serving the people of the United States of America right now.

I”m not running for governor of Massachusetts.”

The statement comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement by Massachusetts A.G. Maura Healey that she is officially running for governor against Danielle Allen, (D), Sonia Chang-Diaz (D), and Geoff Diehl (R).
