Troopers Arrest Man Planning to Rob Taunton Bank

At approximately 11:30 a.m. today, Massachusetts State Police personnel responded to the Bristol County Savings Bank on County Road in Taunton for a report of a man who was raising suspicion by loitering near the bank. Lieutenant Todd Cambra, commander of the MSP K-9 Section, and Trooper Adam Emond, assigned to the Middleboro Barracks, located the man in front of the bank.

When the troopers approached, the suspect became confrontational and was placed under arrest for disturbing the peace. The suspect was identified as COREY SCOTT ROBERIO, 24, of Taunton.

The troopers found in ROBERIO’s jacket a pocket a deposit envelope from the bank, on which had been written a demand for money with instructions for “no alarms … no blue dye and no door locks.” The note also contained threatening language if the demands were not met.

ROBERIO was transported to the State Police Barracks in Middleboro, where he was read his rights and interviewed by Lt. Cambra and Trooper Mark Wheeler of the FBI’s Joint Bank Robbery/Violent Crimes Task Force. Task Force members also responded to the bank to interview employees and obtain surveillance images.

The investigation led troopers and Taunton officers to determine that ROBERIO had been casing the bank while planning to rob the bank itself or a random ATM customer after he or she withdrew money.

ROBERIO was charged with attempting to commit a crime and disturbing the peace. He will be arraigned in the Taunton District Court. No further information is being released. Please note that the Massachusetts State Police do not release booking photos of defendants.
