Traffic Stop in Northfield Leads to Arrest for Trafficking Cocaine

Yesterday at about 4:20 a.m., Trooper Scott Boutell from the State Police – Shelburne Falls Barracks stopped a 2001 Volkswagen Passat for speeding, amongst other motor vehicle violations, on Route 10 north at the intersection of Main Street in Northfield.

Trooper Boutell determined the operator, RYAN SPATH, 21 of Richmond, NH was unlicensed and had an active default warrant for failing to appear after personal recognizances. Subsequently, SPATH was placed under arrest.

A search of the vehicle located approximately 28.3 grams of cocaine and $6,708 cash inside a backpack.

SPATH was booked at the Shelburne Falls Barracks and charged with the following offenses:

1. Trafficking In Cocaine;
2. Warrant;
3. Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle;
4. License Not In Possession;
5. Fail to Stop/Yield;
6. Speeding;
7. Fail Appear Upon Recognizance;
8. Marked Lanes Violation; and
9. Left Lane Restriction Violation.

SPATH was released on $3,500 bail. He is scheduled for arraignment in Greenfield District Court on Monday.
