8 things to look forward to now that Massachusetts has lifted COVID restrictions

Governor Charlie Baker announced that on Saturday, May 29th, the restrictions placed on Massachusetts residents due to COVID will be lifted. The limitations on our daily life that began last March – over a year ago- will no longer be in place. To say that we’re all excited to be able to return to some semblance of our pre-COVID lives would be an understatement.

Having said that, there are still some areas where a face covering or mask will be required: public and/or private transportation like the bus, trains, Lyft and Uber, cabs and taxis and in health care settings and many businesses depending on their policies.

01: Attend A Concert Or Sports Event
This applies to not only local, amateur sports events, but professional events. We can now go back to Fenway and have a hot dog or 5 and a beer or ten at a Red Sox game.

02: Go To A Bar
No longer do we have to abide by the absurd mandate that you can’t sit at a bar with a drink unless you order food too. As if COVID knows whether you are eating and drinking or just drinking. In addition, there are no longer any capacity restrictions.

03: Relax At A Restaurant For Longer Than 90 Minutes
Another silly mandate that was put in place as if COVID knew how long you were sitting at a table. If you were there for 91 minutes COVID knew and came after you. Stay as long as you want now!

04: Go Out Dancing
Nightlife was changed drastically when dancing was no longer allowed. Call up your besties and get ready to work up a sweat and have some fun!

05: Go To A Feast, Festival, Parade
Sadly, this does not mean that our beloved Feast Of The Blessed Sacrament will be happening since the amount of preparation and planning that goes into the “Feast” means organizers simply could not make this year happen. They couldn’t start planning for this year’s event without knowing where would we be in terms of COVID statistics back in September when they start the process.

06: Eating Out With More Than 6 People
With no more restrictions about group size, we no longer have to be selective about who we call and make plans with on the weekend. Call as many of your pals as you want.

07: Use A Gym’s Hot Tub, Sauna Or Steam Room
Gyms, fitness centers, and health clubs were hit particularly hard. Those who enjoy martial arts or combat sports can start training again and those who look forward to hitting the hot tub or steam room after a hard workout can now do that.

08: Attend K-12, Early Education and Summer Camps
Children under 12 are currently unable to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The Department of Public Health (DPH) strongly recommends that programs continue to limit group sizes and be aware of the risks of larger cohorts when campers and staff are not fully vaccinated.

Fully vaccinated individuals do not need to wear a mask indoors or outdoors, do not need to socially distance while at camp, and do not need to quarantine after exposure to COVID-19 unless symptoms develop. Read more here.
