The 2015 Thursdays in the Park Concert Series continues on Thursday, August 20, with The Iron River Singers singing Native American music. The free concert takes place from 6:30-7:30 in the garden at New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, 33 William Street, downtown New Bedford. In the event of inclement weather, the performance will be moved indoors to the National Park Theater. Free.
The Iron River Singers are a well-known northern style native singing group. The members are made up of a number of native nations including Chippewa, Wampanoag, and Abenaki. The original members started singing together when they were between 11 and 13 years old and have now performed around the country for over 25 years. The Iron River Singers have won many contests across the nation as well as internationally.
This year’s Thursday in the Park Concert Series is co-sponsored by the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center, a new non-profit organization dedicated to telling the story of the City’s commercial fishing industry.
