“Summer Nights” grants awarded to New Bedford organizations serving local youth

Grant totaling over $100,000 will enhance and expand summer programming.

Several New Bedford youth-serving organizations have been awarded 2021 Summer Nights Grants by the state Department of Conservation and Recreation. The program demonstrates a strong commitment to youth development, builds community, fosters activities that promote healthy lifestyles and promotes shared stewardship of our parks.

The following organizations received grant awards:

• New Bedford Dennison Memorial Community Center Field trips to the pool and the beach at Myles Standish $25,000.00
• New Bedford Discovery Language Academy Intro to learning a second language, cultural diversity, art, music, and the community $25,000.00
• New Bedford Leaders in Training Summer Basketball League $20,000.00
• New Bedford New Bedford Department of Community Services personal growth and well-being through arts, music, culture, creative self-expression, and physical activity such as yoga and Zumba for girls. $19,211.00
• New Bedford NorthStar Learning Centers Art, Movie and Game Night $20,000.00
“These organizations are serving our young people every day in New Bedford and provide them with a place to learn, grow, and engage in our wonderful community,” said Senator Mark Montigny. “These funds will make it possible for numerous young people to enjoy their summer and take part in all that our community has to offer.”
