Subsequent to opening the door to check on her welfare, the female came to and observed the officer, at which time she placed the car in reverse, thus trapping the officer between the door and the vehicle as she backed up, resulting in the officer being thrown to the ground.

As the officer had previously called in the registration plate, other personnel responding to the scene located the vehicle and the female operator as she was attempting to drive to her boyfriend’s house in Dartmouth.

While attempting to negotiate a motor vehicle stop, the female suspect fled in her vehicle from the officers, as they followed.

While closely following the Nissan, the female suspect crashed her vehicle on Route 18 near Union Street in New Bedford, at which time she attempted to flee on foot before being taken into custody.

As a result of the incident/s, Dartmouth Police arrested Alanna BAYLIES (33) of 2100 Phillips Road, Apartment #13, New Bedford, MA and charged her with assault and battery on a police officer, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, failure to stop for police, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in personal injury, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, failure to stop/yield, and resisting arrest. As a result of both paraphernalia located during the incident, as well as statements that she made, BAYLIES was also charged with operating under the influence of drugs.

After being placed under arrest, BAYLIES was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for evaluation.

The officer involved in the parking lot incident was transported to Charleton Hospital, where he was treated for an upper body injury and released.
