State Police investigating fatal crash on Mass Pike in Boston

UPDATE: The Everett man who was killed in yesterday’s crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike is identified as Igor Alves, 20.

At about 2:00 p.m. today, State Police from the Weston barracks responded to a report of a crash on Route 90 eastbound in Boston, which resulted in the death of one occupant.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Paul Copponi indicates that a 2016 Chevrolet pickup was traveling eastbound when it stopped in the right travel lane in an area without a breakdown lane to secure scrap metal in a trailer that was being pulled. A 2010 BMW 528I driven by a 19-year-old-man from Revere struck the rear of the trailer. As a result of the collision one of the two men from the Chevrolet, who were both outside the pickup, was killed.

The driver who was struck in the roadway, a 20-year-old-man from Everett, was determined to be deceased at the scene. The passenger, a 25-year-old-man from Everett was also injured and was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital. The 19-year-old driver of the BMW was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. Both suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section and Suffolk CPAC. No charges have been filed at this time.

State Police were assisted on scene by Boston fire department, Boston EMS Newton fire department, and Massachusetts department of transportation.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
