State Police Investigate Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash on Route 24 in Fall River

UPDATE: The man who died as a result of injuries sustained in a crash on Route 24 Southbound in Fall River this morning has been identified as YAU WONG LI, 65, of West Roxbury.

The person who died in this mornings fatal crash in Fall River was actually an adult male, not a female as previously reported. Additionally, the victim was not ejected from his vehicle, rather he was struck by the vehicle he was traveling in, the SUV, after it was struck by the van. The identity of the victim will be released later today following family notification.

This morning at 4:59 am, troopers from the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth responded to reports of a multi-vehicle crash on Route 24 Southbound at Route 79 in Fall River.

Upon arrival, troopers discovered that a 2000 Acura 35R had struck the left travel lane guardrail and became disabled perpendicular to oncoming traffic in that lane. A SUV struck the disabled vehicle broadside and also became disabled in the left lane. A van then rear-ended the SUV which caused the van to roll over.

The male passenger of the SUV determined to be deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

During the incident all lanes were closed on Route 24 Southbound and traffic was diverted off of exit 8A. All lanes were reopened at approximately 7:20 am.

The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by troopers assigned to the State Police Dartmouth Barracks, Troop D Headquarters, Detectives assigned to the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit, State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS). Fall River Fire and EMS, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) assisted on scene.
