State Police add Fall River murder suspect to Most Wanted Fugitive List

wanted-fall-river 2The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section today added JAYDEN W. SMITH, 16, to its Most Wanted List. SMITH is wanted for the July 11, 2016 homicide of 29-year-old Jerrod Cohen in Fall River.

At approximately 9:27 p.m. that night, Fall River Police responded to Plain Street for a report of shots fired and a person injured. Responding officers found Cohen suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he later died at a hospital.

An investigation by the Fall River Police Major Crimes Division and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit for Bristol County identified SMITH and another male as the shooters and obtained arrest warrants. The second shooter was arrested, by SMITH remains at large.

SMITH is reported to be a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang and should be considered armed and dangerous. He is charged in a Bristol Superior Court warrant for the crimes of homicide, carrying a firearm without a license, and carrying a loaded firearm.

SMITH is African-American, about 5’8”, 160 lbs., with black hair, brown eyes, and a medium complexion. He has gone by the nickname “Smitty,” and has a tattoo of a six-pointed star on his hand.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Fall River Police Department have offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to Smith’s capture.
