The Greater New Bedford unemployment rate is much higher than the rest of Massachusetts, but believe it or not there really are a lot of jobs available for qualified applicants. Sometimes the barrier to a new job can be the lack of information on available job openings. To solve this, each week New Bedford Guide will be working with the New Directions Southcoast (also known as the Greater New Bedford Career Center) to inform job seekers about the hottest jobs in the area. We will define “Hot Jobs” as those jobs that need to be filled by the employer immediately. 1. Sign Custom Medical Fabrication #1882262 – Award winning sign company seeking custom metal fabricators. Experience only; full time position. Must have operational experience: Brake & Shear Equipment, MIG Welding (aluminum), ability to read shop drawings. Competitive pay and benefits. Commitment to quality and efficient production with position attitude.
Full capabilities of all power tools. Panel saws, brakes, welders a plus. Understand measuring, bolting, hoisting, use of drills. Auto cad a plus. Knowledge of UL Electrical requirements. Ballast, transformers, LEDs, neon, lamps and wiring. Applicant must have a HS Diploma or GED and five plus years of experience.
2. General Maintenance #1882376 – General maintenance, riding a sweeper machine, snow removal, must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and other perform other maintenance duties as asked. Must pass a background check and drug test.
3. Floor Technician #1882369 – Performing daily hard surface floor care procedures including dust mopping, running a scrubber machine, operating vacuums and possible carpet extractors, performing daily care of the floor care equipment and general housekeeping duties such as sweeping the floor, checking the restrooms, emptying trash and snow removal. Must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
4. Wellness Educator/Community Health Worker #1886564 – We are looking for candidates to join our campaign to improve heart and lung health in Fall River, New Bedford and Wareham by limiting secondhand smoke and promoting wellness in housing, worksites and mental health and substance abuse facilities. Our goal is to increase opportunities for good health and decrease the opportunities for smoking and unhealthy choices. The project has three main components: Smoke free housing, an increase to access to tobacco cessation and healthy and smoke free workplaces. CHWs will work closely with housing authorities to support policies, systems, staff education and engagement to increase smoke free public housing units and smoke-free policies. Oversee Housing Authority Resident Champions’ work to educate and engage residents. Requires experience in supervision, health education, systems change. Reports to Project Director.
5. 7D Van Driver #1886568 – Essential Functions: Transport children from designated schools to YMCA site. Monitor all children while transporting to the YMCA site. Provide open communication with parents, children, and staff to assure highest standards of care are being met. Participate in promoting, and enforcing of established ground rules. Participate in maintenance of cleanliness and safety of the physical environment.
Qualifications: Minimum of 21 years of age. Valid Massachusetts class 7D transportation license. Ability to effectively interact with children on a range of issues. Demonstrated ability to make mature judgments in difficult situations.
6. Boatyard Help #1689044 – Expanded boatyard in S.E. Massachusetts looking for Experienced Yard Help. Duties include, but not limited to, operating forklift, power washing, yard and building maintenance, bottom paint, shrink wrap, detailing and waxing, and assisting with haul and launches. Must be familiar with seasonal boatyard operations. Any experience with detailing, shrink wrapping, and bottom prep a plus. Applicant must be reliable, responsible, and hard working. This person will be an integral part of a team concept both internally and externally which includes Department of Children and Families as its funding source. The Family Support worker is responsible for providing home support to families in the Greater New Bedford Area who are referred by the Department of Children and Families and / or the community.
