Sharks Come CruisinOn Thursday, August 25, at 6:30 PM, New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park will be hosting Mark Lambert of the Sharks Come Cruisin and Friends, presenting original and traditional singalong songs.  They will be the featured artists for this coming Thursday Evening in the Park event.  Each week in July and August the park offers a free concert in its garden at 33 William Street, beginning at 6:30 PM.

Mark Lambert is a singer/songwriter from Providence, Rhode Island who has been performing regionally and nationally since 1990.  Lambert, who spent much of the 1990’s performing in punk bands, was inspired in 2003 by the character of Quint’s rendition of ‘Spanish Ladies’ in the film Jaws and began researching traditional Sea Shanties.  By 2004 he began performing these all but forgotten songs under the name Sharks Come Cruisin.  Lambert’s performances are an energetic mix of original and traditional sing-along songs, keeping the themes of audience participation and celebration at the center of his music and live performances.  Lambert has performed both solo, and as Sharks Come Cruisin, at numerous festivals up and down the East Coast, from Florida to Maine, including the Working Waterfront Festival in New Bedford, MA, maritime festivals in Salem, MA and Portsmouth, NH, and The Fest in Gainesville, FL.  Lambert’s original songs and arrangements of traditional sea shanties have been compared to Flogging Molly, The Pogues, and the Dropkick Murphys.
