Salem, Massachusetts Police Department responds to shots fired, one dead, one medflighted

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 15, 2021, the Salem Police Department began receiving calls reporting multiple shots fired in the vicinity of Technology Way, Salem.

Responding units found two people – one male, one female – down on the ground, the victims of apparent gunshots. The male suspect, aged 55, was deceased at the scene from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot to the head. The responding officers immediately rendered lifesaving measures to the female victim, aged 33, who was later transported via MedFlight to a Boston hospital in critical condition.

Preliminary investigation shows the two people were known to each other. Local area businesses were ordered to shelter in place, and roads in the vicinity were blocked off. The investigation is ongoing. There is no information to indicate an immediate, or ongoing, threat to the public.
The incident is under investigation by the Salem Police Department and Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Essex County District Attorney’s Office.
