Runaway Tire Strikes Car on the Pike in Wayland

This crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time.

At about 6:30 p.m., State Police from the Weston barracks responded to a report of a tire striking a vehicle on Route 90 West in Wayland. Information collected in the investigation by Trooper John Carnell indicates that 23-year-old Joel Tangjerd of London, Ontario, Canada, was traveling eastbound on Route 90 in a 1994 Lincoln MK8 when the left rear tire and rim came off the vehicle, traveled across the median and struck the windshield of a 2002 Honda Accord, which was traveling on Route 90 West.

The operator of the Honda, 36-year-old Paul Robillard of Dudley, was transported to Beth Israel Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Tangjerd was uninjured.

This crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed at this time. State Police were assisted on scene by members the Wayland Police Department, and Weston and Natick Fire and EMS.
