On Tuesday, December 23rd, 2014, at approximately 8:38 a.m., Roosevelt Middle School staff discovered a note inside the school that indicated a threat to the building.
New Bedford Police were notified and responded to the school. Based on police recommendations, the threat was deemed to be low-level and non-specific. Police at that point advised school officials that the best course of action was to conduct a sweep of the building as the school day proceeded.
A thorough sweep of Roosevelt was completed by school officials and police. Police determined the threat was not credible, and students continued their school day as usual.
“Although police considered this threat low-level and non-specific, the safety of our students and staff is our priority and we took all the necessary precautions police advised in responding to it,” said Superintendent Pia Durkin. “The Roosevelt staff members are to be commended for their handling of this matter.”
