Rodman School Students Donate to Annual Holiday ‘Socks for Vets’ Drive for Veterans’ Transition House

After finding an announcement for the annual ‘Socks for Vets’ drive for the Veterans’ Transition House of New Bedford, staff and students at the Thomas R. Rodman School were inspired to act.

Mr. Mark Ledoux, Grade 5 teacher at Rodman, initiated a schoolwide sock drive at Rodman – and students, families and staff pitched in to the tune of 779 pairs, at a school of just 200 students.

“We’re happy as a school community to be giving back to our veterans in need during this season of giving and gratitude,” said Principal Kim Marshall of Rodman School.

This holiday season, schools across New Bedford have prepared for winter by sponsoring coat drives for local families in need. New Bedford schools are also fortunate in being a recipient of the generosity of an annual ‘Fill the Bus ‘toy drive organized by Neighborhoods United President Jerry Pinto.

The annual ‘Socks for Vets’ drive was sponsored by the law office of Surprenant and Beneski, P.C., and the Wound Care Center at Vibra Hospital of Southeastern Massachusetts.
