The Fairhaven Police Department responded to a one car motor vehicle accident just after 5:15 am Wednesday morning. When officers arrived, they found a 2007 Nissan Maxima in the water approximately 50 feet from shore. The operator and sole occupant of the vehicle was a 32-year old woman from Rochester.

She stated she became lost as she was traveling westbound on Bridge Street in Fairhaven. The west end of Bridge Street ends at a boat ramp the operator had mistaken as a continuation of the road.  After the vehicle entered the water, the operator managed to escape from the vehicle through the passenger side window and make her way to shore.

The vehicle became submerged in approximately 6 feet of water. James Rocha of Unlimited Dive Technologies along Troy Werner waded out to the vehicle and rigged it with equipment that allowed it to be eventually pulled out of the water by Big Wheels Towing. The woman operating the vehicle was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital by paramedics from the Fairhaven Fire Department.
