Rochester fire fighters and first responders save truck driver trapped after rollover

According to the Rochester Fire Department (RFD), at 6:46am the RFD received a 911 call that a truck had crashed on the Hiller Street Bridge and rolled over into the water. The driver was in the water and trapped in the vehicle.

At 0649 the first responder on scene reported a tractor trailer on its side in the water with the sole occupant, the driver, trapped in the vehicle. After a 40 minute extrication the driver was freed from the vehicle and transported by ground via Rochester Paramedics to a pre-designated landing zone where a Boston Medflight Helicopter was waiting and transported the patient to a Level 1 Trauma Center in Rhode Island. The driver sustained serious injuries.

The crash is still under investigation by the Rochester Police Department. DEP and other environmental authorities were notified and cleanup is presently under way.
